Ensure DSEAR Compliance & Safety for Your Business!

DSEAR Risk Assessment, Compliance and Training

Compliance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR)  is a legal requirement in the UK.

DSEAR requires employers to assess and mitigate risks associated with explosive atmospheres in the workplace and apply to to all industries and workplaces where dangerous substances, such as flammable gases, vapours, or combustible dust are present or could be produced, including chemical plants, oil refineries, manufacturing facilities, warehouses and many others.

DSEAR risk assessment is crucial for ensuring the safety of employees, protecting property, and complying with regulatory standards.

Employee Safety and Well-being

Our DSEAR consultants will help identify potential dangers and advise on measures to protect your employees from harm.

By creating a safer working environment, you can boost employee morale, productivity, and overall well-being.

Regulatory Compliance

Our DSEAR assessments ensure that you meet your legal obligations, fulfil DSEAR compliance requirements and operate within the boundaries of safety regulations.

Incident Prevention and Protection of Assets and Reputation

Preventing accidents and explosions is crucial for protecting your assets, infrastructure, and reputation.

Our DSEAR risk assessments minimise the chances of incidents occurring, safeguard your investments and maintain the trust of your stakeholders.

Our DSEAR Risk Assessment Process

Our DSEAR Risk Assessment service addresses the critical need for businesses to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with dangerous substances that could create explosive atmospheres.

Understanding your needs

Before conducting a DSEAR assessment, we take the time to understand your unique requirements, operations, and the specific hazardous substances and associated processes involved. We work closely with you to align our services with your business goals and objectives.

Site Visit and Data Collection for DSEAR Assessment

Our experienced DSEAR consultant will visit your premises to conduct a thorough assessment. They will gather relevant data, inspect storage areas, review safety documentation, and engage with your staff to gain valuable insights into your existing safety protocols and practices.

Hazard Identification and Risk Evaluation

Our DSEAR consultant will identify potential hazards and evaluate the associated risks. They will analyse the properties of hazardous substances, assess storage and handling procedures, review the effectiveness of ventilation systems, classify hazardous areas, and consider potential ignition sources. This comprehensive evaluation provides you with a clear understanding of your risk landscape.

Risk Mitigation Strategies

Based on the findings from the assessment, you will receive a practical and effective recommendations tailored to your business. They will encompass appropriate control measures, engineering solutions, and safety protocols designed to minimize risks and ensure compliance with DSEAR regulations.

Services Related to DSEAR Assessments

We offer a range of additional services to support your DSEAR compliance efforts. Such services include:

DSEAR training

Our training offerings include a half-day DSEAR Awareness course and a full-day Managing DSEAR Training, both aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to ensure compliance and promote a safe working environment.

Our half-day DSEAR Awareness course is designed to provide a solid foundation in understanding the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations.

Our one-day Managing DSEAR Training is aimed for individuals with managerial responsibilities, safety personnel, engineers and those involved in implementing and maintaining DSEAR compliance within their organizations.

Hazardous Area Zone Classification

A Hazardous Area Classification is an important part of the complete DSEAR Risk Assessment (as detailed in Regulation 7 of DSEAR) and should identify places where controls over ignition sources are needed.

Types and grade of the release of flammable substances, as well as levels of ventilation and limitations of the hazardous area, determine the classification of the zoned area.

As part of our Hazardous Area Classification service, our consultants provide advice on how to reduce the impact of the Hazardous areas and in turn reducing the work required. Where the Zones cannot be reduced, we will support you with practical advice on how to manage the remaining zoned areas.

Ignition Hazard Assessments

Electrostatic (static electricity) is a significant ignition risk. It can build up during many normal industrial processes. Such static charging can result not only in damages and breakdowns, but also it can ignite a spark with a catastrophic potential.

Our DSEAR consultants are experienced in conducting electrostatic survey. We will determine the potential discharge energy, advise if it presents an ignition risk and provide recommendations on appropriate control measures.

Explosion Venting Calculations

One of the required control measures for Hazardous Zones is explosion venting (or explosion pressure relief).

We can complete the explosion venting calculations to provide you with the size and type of vents required as well as providing details of expected flame length.

Zone Drawings

Our DSEAR consultants can also produce Zone Drawings, in both PDF for easy printing and use or AutoCAD .DWG format to allow you to alter and use.

DSEAR Health Checks

Where you already have a DSEAR Risk Assessment in place, we can provide a professional review following any changes to your systems and plant or as part of your period review.

We will come to your site and review your existing controls and provide a report on your current state with appropriate recommendations where needed.

We also offer

  • Continued support post-assessment
  • Assistance with implementing controls
  • Electrostatic field surveys
  • Explosion vent calculations
  • Toxic cloud dispersal modelling
  • Zone drawings
  • Combustible/flammable substance testing for flammability and explosive properties
